The tallest tree ever measured was the Australian eucalyptus (Eucalyptus regnans) at Watt River, Victoria, Australia. In 1872 it was reported to measure 435 feet (132 meters) tall and it was most likely over 500 feet (152 meters) originally. The tallest living tree is coast redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) in Redwood national Park, California, named the National Geographic Society. In October 1991 it was measured at 365 feet (111 meters).
